                                     Pastor James W. McLain
                                       Founder and Overseer

In the fall of 1996 the founder of Progressive House of Worship, Inc., James W. McLain received a mission to spiritually educate, motivate, and uplift-primarily though ministry-the needy and disadvantaged inhabitants of urban areas in the U.S.A.. For several months thereafter Mr. McLain spoke informally with numerous faith-oriented individuals in many communities regarding the aforesaid mission and thereafter organized small group bible study sessions with similarly concerned members of the community. By the spring of 1997, it was determined that a Faith base organization should be formed, which would facilitate the group’s development and its spiritual mission in urban areas.

The complete purpose of Progressive House of Worship, Inc., is to proclaim and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ through weekly Worship and Educational ministries; to be Holy an instrument of life in the community by feeding the hungry, clothing the naked visiting the sick and shut-in and giving our Time, Talent, and Treasures to bring the spirit of Christ to the wounds of society; and to provide motivation, training, and experiences in Christian fellowship, which foster a spirit of unity.

The articles of incorporation were prepared on behalf of the Progressive House of Worship, Inc. and filed in the Office of the Secretary of State of New Jersey on April 29, 1997.

On of June 11, 1997, our non-profit outreach Christian ministry obtained a lease  of a facility in Newark, NJ to have Faith Services for the needy, which also included  day-care, food and clothing distribution, counseling and employment training and placement. However, even though the need for the services we provide in the community we are serving are great, but our financial resources were so limited that we were forced to discontinue the majority of those services, as well as our lease of this facility of worship, which was located next door to an active X-Rated movie theatre.

Although we encountered obstacles, we continue our bible study programs. In September of 1999 about, one of the believer's purchased a home that had a separated garage that allow the ministry to increase from just bible study, to also include the most basic of our needs: Faith Services and Bible Study.
